Ladies and Gentlemen

unnamed 1One of the most enjoyable tasks I have as the President of NAWEM is attending graduation ceremonies of our programmes. It gives me such great pleasure when I see and hear success stories of participants because of a NAWEM programme.

But I am not surprised we are driven by the fact that we should not be merely doing programmes because there are funds. But select our programmes, our participants and our trainers carefully to achieve extraordinary outcomes.

Today's graduation is an example of our mission to give our best. And the end result speaks for itself.

unnamed 2On December 9th, 2017, NAWEM launched the second Entrepreneurship Workshop. This time we called it D.R.I.V.E that is Developing Resilient Innovative High Value Entrepreneurs.

The training started with the capacity-building program of 6 days of EMPRETEC training from UNCTAD, short for United Nations Commission for Trade and Development.

For those who are not aware of EMPRTETEC, let me tell you what ii is. II is based on a HARVARD programme which analyses the behavioural traits of a successful entrepreneur. I am pleased to inform you, NAWEM is the official partner of EMPRETEC. We have 2 South American trainers for this programme, Roberto and Renato, and they are also assisting to train Malaysians  to  run this programme in the future.

unnamed 3EMPRETEC is brought lo Malaysia with the support of HRDF lMOC fund.

We carefully selected 23 aspiring participants to learn and understand their own entrepreneurial behaviours, focusing on the 10 Personal Entrepreneurial Competencies, determined by EMPRETEC. We are thankful to SME Corp, the government support agency for UNCTAD.

The second part of the D.R.1.V.E program continued in January 2018 with another 6 days of training on:

1.    Pitching & Presentation Skills,
2.    Effective Business Planning,
3.    Marketing Strategies and Techniques,
4.    Digital Media for Entrepreneurs,
5.    Finance For Startups, and
6.    Selling from The Customers' Point of View.

unnamed 4This was followed by 8 weeks of 1 on 1 mentoring with industry experts.

All in all an awesome programme, if I may say so. Our graduates have got into Start-ups ranging from Women Recruitment Portal to Food & Beverage to SME Content Marketing Services to Apparel, to Cosmetics and Service to the Manufacturing Sectors.

An impressive list of industries. I have been told that during the first part of their EMPRETEC training, this cohort who are graduating today made a total of RM3,756.00 in 5 days! Well done.

The highest individual profit was by one participant in this group at RM 1,615. Currently 65% of the members of this cohort are generating incomes. That augurs well for the future.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I must add that the success of these graduates is largely due to the hard work put in by the Training Chairman of NAWEM, Ms Nurizan Hassan and Project Leader, Ms Winnie Tam, abd the trainers and mentors who supported this programme. I know they are as excited about the graduation as the graduates are.

Finally let me congratulate the graduates who have worked hard and believed in the system and reaped the benefits. Your tenacity and effort have stood you well. You have made us very proud.

I wish each and every one of you many more achievements in life. Please stay in touch.

God Bless
